When he helps her to repair her home, keeps her flower shop business afloat, and makes her hope and love again, could it be that Brandon is exactly what she needs?

After a forced retirement, Brandon Carmichael is angry and lost, one step away from the familiar path of self-destruction. #BookReview: Grounded Hearts by Jeanne M. Dickson | Celtic Knots #Giveaway

20 Jul

Grounded Hearts is an engaging tale! Dickson intrigued me with the historical details of WWII Ireland, and I delighted in the richly drawn time period and setting. Nan and Dutch, as well as the village inhabitants who aid them, are well-developed characters, and the story that unfolds is rife with drama, danger, and romance. While there are aspects of the novel that some may find impertinent, the overall story line is one I enjoyed.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. No review was required, and all thoughts expressed are my own.

What do you get when you mix World War II, a brave midwife, a wounded pilot, and a risky secret? Jeanne M. Dickson’s new historical fiction novel, Grounded Hearts. When midwife Nan O’Neil finds a wounded young Canadian pilot at her door, she knows she’s taking a huge risk by letting him in. Still, something compels Nan to take in “flyboy” Dutch Whitney, an RAF pilot whose bomber has just crashed over County Clare. While she tends to his wounds and gives him a secret place of refuge, the two begin to form a mutual affection-and an unbreakable bond.

About the book:

In the midst of World War II, Ireland has declared herself neutral. Troops found on Irish soil must be reported and interned, no matter which side they are fighting for. When midwife Nan O’Neil finds a wounded young Canadian pilot at her door, she knows she’s taking a huge risk by letting him in. Not only is she a widow living alone, but if caught harboring a combatant, she’ll face imprisonment.

Still, something compels Nan to take in “flyboy” Dutch Whitney, an RAF pilot whose bomber has just crashed over County Clare. While she tends to his wounds and gives him a secret place of refuge, the two begin to form a mutual affection-and an unbreakable bond.

But Nan has another secret, one that has racked her with guilt since her husband’s death and made her question ever loving again. As Nan and Dutch plan his escape, can he help restore her faith?

Not your typical Amish fiction, His Guilt is sure to keep readers guessing! #BookReview + #Giveaway: Sword of the Matchmaker by Debbie Lynne Costello

25 Jun

Sword of the Matchmaker is an enchanting tale! Filled with action and adventure, Debbie Lynne Costello captures the medieval times and brings the story of Penelope Beatty and Thomas Godfrey to life. I enjoyed Penelope’s strong, determined personality which contrasts with Sir Thomas’s protective nature and heroism. Their story delighted me, as did reuniting with Lord Royce and Lady Brithwin from Book 1, Sword of Forgiveness. I loved this beautifully written romance and am eager to continue the Winds of Change series!

About the book:

Penelope Beatty made up her mind long ago she would live and die a Scottish warrior not a wife. But when nearly all her clan is killed and she is betrayed, she loathes doing the unthinkable, but must seek the help of an Englishman who owed her father his life.

Thomas Godfrey never married, but when a Scottish warrior lass shows up needing his aid, he finds her both annoying and irresistible. But the last thing he wants is to marry a woman who fights alongside him. If he was going to marry—which he isn’t—it would be to a soft, submissive woman. But when the Lady Brithwin meets the Scottish lass, she’s sure she’s found the perfect match for Thomas and nothing is going to stop her from seeing a summer wedding.

#BookReview: Stepping on Cheerios | $75 Cash Card #Giveaway

23 Jun

Filled with wit and wisdom, Betsy Singleton Snyder’s tales of parenthood are ones all moms can relate to. I enjoyed the observations found in Stepping on Cheerios, as Snyder shares her thoughts and experiences of finding God and grace amid everyday living. As she says, “Family life is beautiful and motherhood is a privilege, but it ain’t no picnic!” Child-rearing is challenging, and it is great to read stories from one who knows and understands both the blessings and misadventures of motherhood.

I received a complimentary copy of this book.  No review was required, and all thoughts expressed are my own.

Independent and self-sufficient, author Betsy Singleton Snyder lived a full and busy life as a pastor, missionary, and wife to a husband who served in the U.S. House of Representatives. She had her first child at age 44, then at 47, she found out she was carrying triplets. Suddenly finding herself overwhelmed is an understatement.

Stepping on Cheerios is a collection of funny, warm, and charming tales from the frontlines of parenthood, written for women who are juggling to accomplish everyday feats of work, motherhood, marriage, church, and more. #BookReview: True to You | $100 Cash Card + Prize Pack #Giveaway

16 May

A perfect balance of lighthearted humor and meaningful emotion, True to You is a most enjoyable read! I loved the characterization of the Bradford sisters and their unique family dynamic. Nora Bradford is a librarian and historian, and I found her bookish persona quite endearing. John Lawson, former Navy SEAL, is a chivalrous hero, and I delighted in the pairing of these polar opposites. Theirs is a clever and charming romance that leaves me eager to continue this exciting new series!

“She was bookish! She had no experience at holding eye contact with Navy SEALs. All the practice she’d put in with Mr. Darcy and Rochester and Adolphus didn’t seem to be holding her in good stead.”

I received a complimentary copy of this book. No review was required, and all thoughts expressed are my own.

About the book:

After a devastating heartbreak three years ago, genealogist and historical village owner Nora Bradford has decided that burying her nose in her work and her books is far safer than romance in the here and now.

Unlike Nora, former Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor recipient John Lawson is a modern-day man, usually 100 percent focused on the present. But when he’s diagnosed with an inherited condition, he’s forced to dig into the secrets of his past and his adoption as an infant, enlisting Nora to help him uncover the identity of his birth mother.
The more time they spend together, the more this pair of opposites suspects they just might be a perfect match. However, John’s already dating someone and Nora’s not sure she’s ready to trade her crushes on fictional heroes for the risks of a real relationship. Finding the answers they’re seeking will test the limits of their identity, their faith, and their devotion to one another.
