#BookReview: In the Shadow of Denali by Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse

in-the-shadow-of-denali

In the Shadow of Denali is a compelling tale! Intertwining fact and fiction, Peterson and Woodhouse treat readers to a fascinating look at the Alaska Territory. Brimming with historical details and vibrant imagery, this beautiful setting comes to life on the page, and I loved spending time there.

Cassidy Ivanoff and her father are wonderful characters, and I delighted in the relationships that developed between them and John’s apprentice, Allan Brennan. As Allan searches for answers regarding his father’s death, intrigue continues to build as danger lurks.

Combining history, mystery, and romance, I thoroughly enjoyed In the Shadow of Denali and look forward to continuing the Heart of Alaska series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. No review was required, and all thoughts expressed are my own.

About the book:

Cassidy Ivanoff and her father, John, work at the new and prestigious Curry Hotel outside Mt. McKinley. While John will be expedition and wilderness exploration guide for the wealthy tourists, Cassidy has signed on as a cook’s assistant. Both are busy as the hotel prepares to welcome the president of the United States on his way to drive in the golden spike to officially complete the railroad.

Allan Brennan travels to the Curry Hotel to be an apprentice of a seasoned Alaska mountain guide. Ever since his father’s death climbing Mt. McKinley, he’s worked to earn enough money to make the trek to the Alaska territory himself. His father’s partner blames their guide for the death of his father, but Allan wants to find the truth for himself. He finds an unlikely ally in Cassidy, and as the two begin to look into the mystery, they suddenly find that things are much less clear, and much more dangerous, than either could ever imagine.

With nowhere else to turn, Jewel must rely on police chief Colin Winters—the first man to make the widow question her resolve to never love again. But will he stay by her side when her guarded secrets are revealed?

Once again, Elizabeth Goddard delivers an action-packed story filled with intrigue and suspense. From the very first page, Cobie MacBride finds herself in danger and running for her life, all the while seeking answers about her father’s mysterious disappearance. Just as the tagline promises, love and danger collide in Elizabeth Goddard’s latest Mountain Cove release. While fans of the series will enjoy David Warren’s story, each of the Mountain Cove books can be enjoyed independently.

Backfire is an exciting story! Tracy Murray and David Warren are vulnerable characters who have been deeply affected by traumatic events. Both are struggling to overcome their pasts and must rely on each other to secure their future. I enjoyed these characters, as well as another special character, Solomon. I thought this search and rescue dog was a great addition to the story line. Dramatic and intriguing, I enjoyed this Alaskan adventure!

A complimentary copy of Backfire was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. I appreciate the opportunity to read this story and offer my honest opinion.

About the book:

Tracy Murray had thought she’d be safe disappearing in the wilds of Alaska after her testimony put away a gang leader. But the gang symbol tattooed on an attacker’s arm means the clock has run out. She’s been found—and she knows the killers won’t let her escape alive again. She can’t fight an entire gang alone—she needs help. But when she finds herself relying on widowed firefighter David Warren, a new struggle emerges. Fleeing Alaska and cutting all ties could be the only way to survive…but it would mean leaving her heart behind.

On a daring mission, search-and-rescue specialist Heidi Warren and her team step onto an icy Alaskan mountaintop. . .and right into a trap. A stranded gang of thieves holds them at gunpoint, forcing them to serve as guides along the treacherous path. Menaced on all sides by dangerous weather, deadly terrain and murderous criminals, Heidi desperately needs someone to trust. But her rescue partner, Isaiah Callahan, is keeping secrets from her. Secrets that ended their chance at a relationship before it could even begin. Yet her survival depends on finding a way to trust Isaiah when a blizzard starts closing in and her options start running out.

Thoughts:

“In the Alaskan wilderness, love and danger collide.”

Elizabeth Goddard delivers another nail-biting suspense in the Mountain Cove series!  In the Alaskan mountains, a group of criminals needs rescuing and forces the search and rescue specialists to guide them across the frozen terrain.  Can these volunteers navigate their way to safety before a blizzard closes in?

Untraceable offers a unique search-and-rescue storyline and I enjoyed the elements of good versus evil.  I also enjoyed the spiritual thread that runs through the story, as well as the romantic undercurrent.  Untraceable is an exciting story and I look forward to reading more of the Mountain Cove series!

Thoughts:

I had such mixed emotions as I began this book!  I was anxious to read Reef’s story, but I was also reluctant to let go of the McKenna family.  I am happy to say that Sabotaged is an exciting conclusion to an exciting series!

The drama quickly unfolds in the icy tundra of Alaska.  As mushers race to the finish in the Iditarod, Reef McKenna and Kirra Jacobs find themselves in a race against time.  The danger continues to escalate in this page-turning suspense and the twists and turns will leave you breathless.  I loved the uniqueness of this storyline, the spiritual threads that run throughout, and the tender romance that developed.  Sabotaged is a compelling story that kept me guessing and I enjoyed every minute of the adventure!

Sabotaged is the fifth and final book in Dani Pettrey’s acclaimed Alaskan Courage series.  While each book in the series can stand on its own, I encourage you to read them in order to better understand the characters and their stories.  If you are a fan of romantic suspense, this is a series I think you will love!
