Fast forward one year. This December, with a looming deadline, restless spirit and her creative spark long since gone, Maren is desperate to get unstuck. And she can’t get Colin out of her head…or his year-old open invitation to spend a couple weeks writing at his family’s farm.
Drew Renwycke never planned to come home and take over the Renwycke family farm. But he’s spent too many years watching his siblings unravel, including his brother, Colin, after one terrible family mistake. If moving to Maple Valley, Iowa, renovating an old farmhouse and switching careers is what it takes to put the Renwycke family back together, he’ll do it.
But his simple plan upends when a scrappy author lands on his doorstep. And she just might be the key to coaxing his brother home. But what if he wants her all to himself? Drew will have to choose between his Christmas wish and the enchantment of a holiday romance that just might be the happy ending they all long for.

21 AugThe Art of Falling by Julie Jarnagin
Heather Tornsten needs a man…a celebrity, more specifically, for a fundraising gala for the Dallas art museum, where she works. And what better headliner than bull rider Wyatt Lawrence? Although why people idolize grown men who make their living falling off animals, she’ll never understand.
When his mom was diagnosed with cancer, Wyatt determined to focus on doing what she wants—like visiting some art museum. But when his mom teams up with Heather Tornsten to get him involved in a fundraiser, he knows he’s been set up. The more involved he gets with the pretty events coordinator, the more he realizes falling off a bull is far safer. Because falling for Heather–who has made it clear that she won’t risk her heart on any man who courts danger–might break a whole lot more than his bones.
My thoughts:
The Art of Falling is an adorable novella! This was my first Julie Jarnigan read, but it certainly won’t be my last. I really enjoyed the humor and heart of this touching story, as well as its delightful characters.
Wyatt Lawrence and Heather Tornsten are complete opposites and their conflict and chemistry is such fun to read. I enjoyed The Art of Falling and am eager to read the next book in the Taste of Texas series!

Dr. Nick Jackson is done with medicine, and owning a B&B is as far from doctoring as he can get. He needs help, but his only employee’s mistakes give him doubts. But as they fall for each other, Nick and Zoe must learn the hardest lesson of all—to forgive. Only then can they heal the past and embrace the future . . . together.
My thoughts:
Island Refuge is a charming story! I loved the island setting and was very interested to know that it was inspired by Anderson Island, Washington. The main characters in this story, Zoe Griffin and Nick Jackson, are both seeking refuge from their pasts. Their story is entertaining, intriguing, and romantic. I enjoyed visiting the Wildflower Bed and Breakfast and look forward to returning to this small island in the next book, Island Dreams!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher, Mountain Brook INK, in exchange for an unbiased review. I appreciate the opportunity to read this story and share my thoughts.
