#BookReview: Code of Valor by Lynette Eason

4 Jan

Code of Valor is tension-filled and action-packed! Suspense builds as Brady’s and Emily’s story unfolds, and it is certainly one that kept me guessing. Great characterization and engaging plots are hallmarks of Eason’s writing, and fans of the Blue Justice series are sure to enjoy its latest installment. For those who haven’t read the series, Code of Valor is a story that can easily stand on its own. I enjoy the St. John family dynamic and look forward to more of their crime-fighting endeavors.

About the book:

What Detective Brady St. John really needs is a relaxing vacation. Unfortunately, just as the sun is setting on his second day at a friend’s cabin on Lake Henley, he hears a scream and races to rescue a woman from her would-be killer. When the killer escapes only to return to finish the job, Brady vows to utilize all of his many resources to keep her safe–and catch those who would see her dead.

Financial crimes investigator Emily Chastain doesn’t trust many people. And even though she let the detective who saved her life in on a few pertinent facts about why she was being attacked, there are some things you just don’t share with a stranger. Little does she suspect that the secret she is keeping just might get them both killed.

Oath of Honor is a page-turning suspense! Eason pulled me into the story from the very beginning and held my attention until the last word was read. The authenticity of the St. John family brings the story to life, as does the intense investigation that unfolds. I delighted in Izzy’s and Ryan’s subtle romance, and the suspense and surprises kept me eagerly turning page after page. Oath of Honor begins an exciting new series, and it is one I can’t wait to continue!

Determined to discover exactly what happened, Izzy’s investigation sends her headfirst into a criminal organization, possibly with cops on the payroll–including someone from her own family. With her dead partner’s handsome homicide detective brother Ryan shadowing her every move, Izzy’s head is spinning. Chasing Secrets is an exciting suspense! Haley and Steven are complex characters, and their story is brimming with intrigue. The drama and danger unfold quickly, and the cleverly crafted plot kept me guessing until the end. With its thrilling twists and turns, Chasing Secrets is my favorite of the Elite Guardians, a series I recommend for suspense readers who enjoy strong characters and unique story elements.

Katie Singleton, a partner with the Elite Guardians Protection Agency, stumbles upon her next assignment quite by accident. Spotting blue lights at a familiar restaurant, she stops to investigate, only to discover that owner Daniel Matthews has become the target of someone who will go to any lengths to put him out of business.

Daniel might be concerned, but he’s not convinced that a bodyguard–and a female one at that–is necessary. A new attack and his niece’s urgings are enough to make him reconsider. He and Katie must figure out who’s behind the intimidation and threats–before a would-be killer strikes again.

My thoughts:

Without Warning is an action-packed suspense! When Katie Singleton stumbles into an assignment, she finds herself protecting local restaurant owner Daniel Matthews. As tensions build and threats escalate, Katie and Daniel must work together to stay safe and uncover the identity of this relentless attacker. Enjoying the drama, intrigue, and romance of their story, I eagerly turned the pages to find out what would happen next. Now, I’m already anticipating Quinn and Maddy’s story in the next exciting adventure with the Elite Guardians Protection Agency!

While this is the second book in the Elite Guardians series, Without Warning easily reads as a stand-alone story.

Sins of the Past: A Romantic Suspense Novella Collection

In Dee Henderson’s “Missing,” a Wyoming sheriff is called to Chicago when his elderly mother goes missing. Paired with a savvy Chicago cop, the two realize her disappearance is no accident, and a race against the clock begins.

Dani Pettrey returns to Alaska with “Shadowed,” introducing readers to the parents of her beloved McKenna clan. Adventure, romance, and danger collide when a young fisherman nets the body of an open-water swimming competitor who may actually be a possible Russian defector.

Lynette Eason’s “Blackout” delivers the story of a woman once implicated in a robbery gone wrong. The loot has never been found–but her memory of that night has always been unreliable. Can she remember enough to find her way to safety when the true culprit comes after her?

My thoughts:

Sins of the Past is a great collection! These three beloved and bestselling authors have shared engaging stories “where the past will not stay buried” and “danger will never go away”.

“Missing”- Dee Henderson kept me guessing with this novella, puzzling more over the “why” than the “who”.

“Shadowed”- I loved Dani Pettrey’s Alaskan Courage series, so I was delighted to learn more about the McKenna parents and their journey.

“Blackout”- Lynette Eason captivated me with this nail-biting suspense!

I am a fan of each of these authors, so enjoying them together in one book was a real treat! Each of their stories is uniquely told and boasts intrigue, adventure, and romance. I thoroughly enjoyed Sins of the Past and recommend this collection to fans of romantic suspense!

Toward the Sunrise

Toward the Sunrise by Elizabeth Camden

Kindle | Nook

Julia Broeder is only six months shy of graduating from the Women’s Medical College of Pennsylvania when one small decision spirals out of control and results in her expulsion. Hoping to travel the world as a missionary doctor, her only choice is to return back home…or throw herself upon the mercy of Ashton Carlyle.

Formal and straight-laced, Ashton Carlyle is not pleased to see an expelled Julia arrive at his Manhattan office. His position as a junior attorney for the Vandermark family’s world-famous shipping empire entails taking care of the Broeders, longtime employees of the Vandermark family. But Ashton has no intention now of using his employer’s resources in defense of Julia’s impulsive and reckless actions.

What Ashton did not expect was a scathing reprimand from none other than the Vandermark family patriarch or the bewildering resistance from Julia herself when he’s forced to change his tune. At an impasse, Ashton and Julia never anticipated the revelations that arise or the adventure that awaits them.

In this novella, award-winning novelist Elizabeth Camden introduces readers to the world of the grand Hudson River Valley estate Dierenpark and the enigmatic Vandermark family. Includes an extended preview of Until the Dawn, Camden’s full-length Dierenpark novel.

Amber Alert

Amber Alert by Linda K. Rodante

Kindle

Sharee Jones just wants a partner with whom she can serve the Lord. She didn’t plan on getting involved with a man who resents God, didn’t plan on the mutilated dolls or the threatening notes interfering with her Christmas program—and with the child who’s to play baby Jesus. She thought God’s hand was in this, but how can it be, when everything she hoped and prayed for is crashing down like the Gulf waves after a storm?

John Jergenson hoped taking the maintenance job at his cousin’s church meant he could leave his guilt-ridden past behind. But he hadn’t counted on Sharee and her program. He hadn’t counted on her laugh or the warmth in her hazel eyes. And he certainly hadn’t counted on her wanting to know the truth about his life. He wants to leave, but Sharee might be in danger, and if he runs again will he ever forgive himself?

No Place to Hide by Lynette Eason

It’s not every day you see your childhood friend and one-time crush on national news. Jackie Sellers just wishes it were under different circumstances. She can’t believe that Ian Lockwood is wanted in connection with a terrorist plot, and she’s determined to find him and help him clear his name. But she’s not the only one looking. The FBI wants him captured. The bad guys want him dead. Ian just wants to stay alive long enough to save thousands of innocent lives.

Thoughts:

No Place to Hide is an action-packed suspense!  From the first page until the last, Lynette Eason keeps readers on the edge of their seat as Ian Lockwood and Jackie Sellers run for their lives.  I really enjoyed this fast-paced story and its drama and intrigue.  Ian and Jackie are great characters and the romance that subtly develops between them is a nice addition to the exciting storyline.

Although this is the third book in the Hidden Identity series, No Place to Hide is a stand-alone novel.  I really enjoyed this page-turning suspense and look forward to reading more from this talented author!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and appreciate the opportunity to share my honest opinion.
