Dubbed as “Recipes and Ramblings from The Belle of All Things Southern”, this spiral-bound storytelling cookbook is brimming with sumptuous southern fare, laugh-out-loud stories, and beautiful photographs.

Believing “the best meals come with a story”, Shellie Rushing Tomlinson has compiled a wonderful collection of recipes and served them up with heaping helpings of humor and heart. My family and I have certainly enjoyed adding some of these delicious dishes to our menu and are eager to try more. They are tried and true and plate licking good, but you’ll have to grab a copy of the book to find out more about that!  😉

Whether you ask for it by name at restaurants or are one of the legions of people who travel with your own bottle, you know there’s no substitute for giving eggs, oysters, and Bloody Marys a kick.

But Tabasco Pepper Sauce is a versatile ingredient for other foods, too. This revised and updated edition of The Tabasco Cookbook includes 20 new recipes for enjoying southern-style classics and American down-home favorites. From perfect fried chicken to a pan of peppery gingerbread, here are 80 recipes and color photography to test your fiery food limits—and keep you coming back for more.

My thoughts:

This revised and updated edition of The Tabasco Cookbook is filled with 80 recipes that include “America’s favorite pepper sauce”. Whether adding flavor or heat, from breakfast to dessert, this collection features a variety of ways to tantalize your taste buds!

In addition to the delicious recipes, I enjoyed the beautiful photographs, cooking tips, and Tabasco tidbits that are found throughout the book. When choosing new dishes to try, I really appreciated the recipe rating system. Each recipe includes a tiny Tabasco Sauce bottle numbering from one to four, which indicates the spiciness of the dish. Another delightful aspect of this cookbook is the Tabasco history that is shared in the first few pages. It made me appreciate this distinctive pepper sauce even more!

Fans of Tabasco Sauce are sure to enjoy this great collection of recipes, as will those looking to spice up their dishes!

Straight from Amish kitchens to yours, this cookbook offers favorite family recipes and charming stories from Amish and Mennonite cooks.

Bake the pecan rolls that taste best after an ice-skating party, or try the hoagies that a community sold to help an Amish family with hospital bills. Discover the cocoa cupcakes with instructions to “stir by hand” that one young cook took literally, or whip up the whoopie pies that one Amish woman took to market in her horse and buggy.

These cherished recipes speak of comforting traditions, lively communities, and strong Christian faith. Gather your family around the table to sample the nourishing fare and trademark charm of the plain people. In the words of one cookbook contributor: “Bake someone happy!”

My thoughts:

Gather Around The Amish Table is a lovely cookbook and a wonderful sampling of the food and fare shared in plain communities.  Brimming with recipes and stories from Amish and Mennonite families, this treasury of favorites is a great addition to any kitchen.  I really enjoy the easy-to-make recipes and the beautiful photographs that include food and glimpses of Amish life.  The stories shared by the various contributors are a pleasure to read and really make this cookbook special.  My family and I have enjoyed the recipes we’ve tried and look forward to enjoying many more!
