As I opened the striking cover if this book, I was pulled into the story and lost in its depths. With beautiful, sweeping strokes, Jocelyn Green paints a vivid picture of a lesser known period of history. Julianne Chevalier is a strong character with a resolve to overcome, and her journey held me captive and continues to linger in my mind. Rife with tumult and treachery, The Mark of the King is a riveting tale of redemption, one historical fiction fans won’t want to miss!

#BookReview: A Moonbow Night by Laura Frantz

20 Jan

a-moonbow-night

Laura Frantz writes with an eloquence that is unmatched, and I love losing myself in the rich, vivid stories she brings to life!  In her latest release, Frantz subtly weaves an intricate narrative of the history and heartache that encompassed the settling of the Kentucky frontier.  Tempe and Sion’s journey is complex and compelling, perfectly blending moments of turbulence with moments of tenderness.  Impeccably researched and beautifully rendered, fans of historical romance are sure to relish A Moonbow Night!

“There was magic here. A hallowed, heavenly magic. Aside from a star shower, those white bursts that streaked across a moonless midnight, the delight of the moonbow went deep.”

I received a complimentary copy of this book.  No review was required, and all thoughts expressed are my own.

About the book:

After fleeing Virginia, Temperance Tucker and her family established an inn along the Shawnee River. It’s a welcome way station for settlers and frontiersmen traveling through the wild Cumberland region of Kentucke–men like Sion Morgan, a Virginia surveyor who arrives at the inn with his crew looking for an experienced guide. When his guide appears, Sion balks. He certainly didn’t expect a woman. But it is not long before he must admit that Tempe’s skill in the wilderness rivals his own. Still, the tenuous tie they are forming is put to the test as they encounter danger after danger and must rely on each other.

With her signature sweeping style and ability to bring the distant past to vivid life, Laura Frantz beckons readers to join her in a land of Indian ambushes, conflicting loyalties, and a tentative love that meanders like a cool mountain stream.

#BookReview: Never Forget by Jody Hedlund

4 Jan

quote-never-forget

Never Forget captivated me from beginning to end!

Abbie Watson is an endearing character, and my heart ached for her and the situation she was in. I admired her unwavering dedication to Gramps and her determination to maintain their post at the Rose Island Lighthouse.

Fans of this series will remember Nathaniel Winthrop III from Book 4, Forever Safe, and are sure to delight in his transformation. The events that transpired between Abbie and Nathaniel and the twists and turns along their journey were completely unexpected and quite compelling!

Never Forget is the fifth and final novel in the Beacons of Hope series, one I’m sad to see come to an end. I highly recommend this beautiful story, as well as the many others Hedlund has written!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. No review was required, and all thoughts expressed are my own.

About the book:

Abbie Watson is content to spend her days clamming, crabbing, and tending Rose Island Lighthouse. Her grandpa is the head light keeper, but his senility may lead to their eviction. Since leaving the island would kill her beloved Gramps, Abbie will do anything to keep him in the one place he knows and loves.

Wealthy Nathaniel Winthrop III’s wild living has gained him a reputation as the ‘bad boy’ among the elite social circles of Newport. After a blow to the head in a yachting accident washes him up on Rose Island, Nathaniel has no memories of his past.

Abbie tends the wounded stranger in her home only to realize he assumes they’re married. Although she knows she needs to correct Nathaniel’s mistake, his presence calms Gramps and provides a way to prevent eviction from the lighthouse.

The longer the charade continues, the harder it gets for Abbie to tell Nathaniel the truth, more so as she begins to fall in love. Everyone she’s ever loved has abandoned her. Will Nathaniel leave her too, once he discovers he’s not really her husband?

#BookReview: The Innkeeper of Ivy Hill by Julie Klassen

30 Dec

the-innkeeper-of-ivy-hill

Julie Klassen is an exceptional historical author, and she completely charmed me with The Innkeeper of Ivy Hill. I loved the picturesque English village and delighted in the compelling characters who reside there! As I began reading, I became immersed in Jane’s world and the complexities of living and working at The Bell. “Can Jane bring new life to the inn, and to her heart as well?” I can’t wait to continue the Tales from Ivy Hill series and find out!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. No review was required, and all thoughts expressed are my own.

About the book:

the-innkeeper-of-ivy-hill

On a rise overlooking the Wiltshire countryside stands the village of Ivy Hill. Its coaching inn, The Bell, is its lifeblood–along with the coach lines that stop there daily, bringing news, mail, travelers, and much-needed trade.

Jane Bell lives on the edge of the inn property. She had been a genteel lady until she married the charming innkeeper who promised she would never have to work in his family’s inn. But when he dies under mysterious circumstances, Jane finds herself The Bell’s owner, and worse, she has three months to pay a large loan or lose the place.

Feeling reluctant and ill-equipped, Jane is tempted to abandon her husband’s legacy and return to her former life of ease. However, she soon realizes there is more at stake than her comfort. But who can she trust to help her? Her resentful mother-in-law? Her husband’s brother, who wanted the inn for himself? Or the handsome newcomer with secret plans of his own . . . ?

With pressure mounting from the bank, Jane struggles to win over naysayers and turn the place around. Can Jane bring new life to the inn, and to her heart as well?

#BookReview: For the Record by Regina Jennings

29 Dec

for-the-record

I love reading Regina Jennings’ stories because I know they will bring smiles and laughter, and For the Record did just that! While it is the third book in the Ozark Mountain Romance series, this novel reads as a stand-alone story.

Rich characterization and romantic chemistry bring Joel and Betsy’s story to life, and I delighted in their antics. The adventures in Pine Gap continue as a thread of mystery weaves its way through the narrative, adding an element of intrigue to the entertaining story line. I thoroughly enjoyed this cleverly crafted tale and can’t wait to read more!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. No review was required, and all thoughts expressed are my own.

About the book:

for-the-record

Betsy Huckabee might be a small-town girl, but she has big-city dreams. Writing for her uncle’s newspaper will never lead to independence, and the bigger newspapers don’t seem interested in the Hart County news. Trying a new approach, Betsy pens a romanticized serial for the ladies’ pages, and the new deputy provides the perfect inspiration for her submissions. She’d be horrified if he read her breathless descriptions of him, but these articles are for a newspaper far away. No one in Pine Gap will ever know.

Deputy Joel Puckett didn’t want to leave Texas, but this job in tiny Pine Gap is his only shot at keeping his badge. With masked marauders riding every night, his skills and patience are tested, but even more challenging is the sassy journalist lady chasing him.

Love, Lies, & Typewriters by Heather Blanton

On sale today for $0.99!  http://amzn.to/2eKaMG7

A cowboy with a Purple Heart. A reporter with a broken heart. Which one is her Mr. Right?

When Lucy Daniels is rescued from a stampeding herd of cattle by war hero Dale Sumner, sparks fly and headlines are born. Smelling an opportunity, the local newspaper decides to send the couple on a tour selling war bonds—not to mention, subscriptions. Enamored with her handsome savior, Lucy is happy to play her part … until she realizes her affections are slowly slipping toward the wrong man.

Ace reporter and aspiring mystery writer Bryce Richard is tasked with building up Lucy and Dale’s budding affair. He can’t think of anything worse for a journalist than switching from hard news to pounding out romantic drivel. Complicating matters, Bryce wishes Lucy would look to him for her happily-ever-after. Only, that would wreck the whole tour and Bryce’s coveted book deal.

When love and lies collide on the front page, will Lucy and Bryce have a chance to write their own fairy tale ending? Or are they already yesterday’s news?

My thoughts:

“The fairy-tale ending is non-negotiable.”

This happily-ever-after is witty, humorous, and full of charm! I loved the time period and delighted in the characters and their antics. Love, Lies, and Typewriters is an entertaining novella and a great introduction to Heather Blanton’s writing. I look forward to reading more!
